While coconut oil is always a good choice, castor can do great things for lengthening your hair, too. "Use organic castor oil two times week," says Mary Yalda, a hairstylist at Fox & Jane in New York City. "Apply it directly on the scalp and sleep with it. This will generate new hair growth and make your hair stronger. Just be sure to wash it out really well in the morning because it tends to be very thick."
You can't control whether your hair naturally grows straight or not - that's determined by genetics. There are some natural methods you can try to temporarily straighten hair, though they won't be as effective as using a straightener - see How to Straighten Hair Naturally. Also note that the longer your hair is, the more weighed down it is, which stretches it out somewhat, making it less curly/wavy than it would be when shorter. As for soft hair, see How to Have Soft Shiny Hair Inexpensively for some tips.
Hi Jennie, really sorry to hear about your experience. It can be terribly upsetting, but I would use a moisturising hair mask every week to get it back to good health. Make sure you eat a good healthy diet (you can find details in the article) and use just lukewarm water to wash your hair. I wouldn't recommend hair massage if your hair is falling out at the moment, when it has had time to recover you can try a gentle scalp massage in the shower when you're shampooing - that would be a good start. I hope this helps, but if you're at all worried please visit your nearest hair salon to seek professional advice.
First off, never brush your hair when it’s wet. Use a wide tooth comb (or a brush specifically designed for wet hair) to detangle, and work slowly and carefully from the bottom up to avoid hair breakage. When your hair is dry, brush it with a cushioned brush with boar bristles, which are gentle on fragile hair. Use the brush to stimulate your scalp and enhance circulation and healthy hair growth. About 15 or 20 strokes a day will do the trick.

My hair has always taken forever to grow, so I am excited to try these methods. I have thin hair and not a lot of it. My hair is just below my shoulders, how much coconut oil do I use and is there any certain brand you recommend? Do you get the oil that is in solid or liquid form? I look forward to any useful additional tips you are able to provide.

Essential oils can be highly effective to cure different scalp and hair problems. Starting from dry and itchy scalp to dandruff, brittle hairs, hair dryness all can be cured with proper essential oil treatment. Essential oils can also boost new hair growth. So, if you are suffering from sudden hair loss, start taking essential oil hair fall treatment every alternate night before going to bed and wash off with a mild hair cleanser in the morning.

Use essential oils combined with a scalp massage. Massage promotes good circulation in the scalp and increases blood flow to your follicles. Gently massage your scalp daily by hand for a couple of minutes. To enhance the massage, use a few drops of lavender, rosemary, thyme, peppermint, or cedarwood essential oil in an almond, coconut, jojoba, grapeseed, or sesame oil base on your scalp.[1]
Once you start finding more hairs on your hair brush, hair towel or on the pillow, it is important to make a note immediately. If the same continues for a week, you know it is high time when you need to be serious about the hair fall. For many, hair loss starts at a lower rate and often goes unnoticed till thinning of hairs become apparent. So, it is really important that you actually notice the hair loss at the right time and start taking the right measures immediately to stop excessive hair loss and to boost hair regrowth. Here is what you should do once you notice more hair fall,
Male hair loss (also known as male pattern baldness or ‘androgenic alopecia’) is usually genetic, although it can also be caused by extreme stress, illness, side effects to medical treatment, a major life event, skin disorders or hormone imbalance. The hormone testosterone is converted into DHT, which causes hair follicles to shrink. Hair production subsequently slows down or even stops altogether.
Conditioners are your hair’s best friend—they help you detangle, they keep your hair soft and shiny. “There are conditioners for every hair type,” says Albor, “and everyone should find the right formula and apply it after every shampoo. You can even skip a shampoo from time to time and go straight to the conditioner.” Leave-in treatments are great to help with detangling and protect the hair from heat. And a weekly hair mask or oil-based hair treatment will help take care of the older, more fragile ends that are susceptible to breaking off.
How to reduce hair fall? Collagen makes an essential element of the hairs, but as we age collagen starts to break down, leaving hairs more prone to breaking. The best way to boost collagen level in your hair is to increase the amount of Vitamin C in your daily diet. Foods naturally loaded with vitamin C include; citrus fruits, strawberries and red pepper. Including 250 mg of Vitamin C in your daily diet can help to boost the collagen production.
I have the frizzyets hair ever I NEED to try all of these thank you SO much cuz my hair is a jumper it won’t sit down and my mom and dad say there going to cut it because they won’t wash it being there TOO protected so only they can wash it Im nine you can’t see AND treat me like I’m a toddler forever so I try to get some cash and get stuff like big girl stuff on low prices and hair stuff so they can start to realize that I ain’t no toddler anymore >8(
Minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine, is an over-the-counter medication that can be applied to the hair in liquid or mousse form. The medication works by stimulating the hair follicles and promoting regrowth in as little as six months. If six months seems a little long for results, you can also use a hair-thickening spray in the meantime that coats the existing hair and gives the appearance of a more voluminous mane.
Avoid applying hair oil every day. This will only make your hair greasy and as a result will attract more dust and may lead to dandruff which in turn will lead to hair fall. The primary purpose of applying hair oil everyday, apart from nourishing hair, is to reduce body heat. Follow the 3rd point above instead of applying hair oil everyday. It’s recommended to apply any hair oil 1–2 hours before washing your hair or the night before.

Hi Danielle! I really love this post about how you doubled your hair growth! I keep coming back to it to see if could do something else or if I forget something. In the past I’ve tried out gelatin and it worked but got a bit expensive over time, so I stopped buying it for a while. Biotin is something I haven’t tried out yet, because I’m afraid of getting bad skin as some people get bad skin from it.
Great article Anushka, Thanks for sharing such a great tips to make our hair grow faster. Your article provides the informative content about how actually hair grows and the phases of hair production. I appreciate your article. I am also having a website named Miemani which is the best hair repair salon in the East London. It offers different hair styles, and hair repair services at the affordable price.
Hi there, if your hair is greasy then I wouldn't recommend using the oil every day - maybe just once a week and you only need the smallest amount. You can do the inversion method without oil - just gently massage your scalp every day for the 7 days. In terms of washing your hair, try to use a small amount of product and use luke warm water to rinse your hair. I hope this helps.

Including essential fatty acids in your regular diet can be helpful to stop hair fall, promoting hair growth, naturally. Walnuts, nuts, flax seeds, almonds, fish and avocado are common natural sources of healthy fatty acids. So include these nuts and fruits along with fish in your daily diet. You can simply munch on walnuts and almonds. Use flax seeds in any of your diet; just ensure to chew them well. Fishes like Salmon and Tuna are the richest animal source of fatty acids.

As soon as you can notice hair fall, start maintaining the best hygiene for your scalp and hairs. Uncleaned scalp and hairs can give rise to different types of scalp infections and hair problems that will ultimately lead to hair loss. Make sure that your hairs and scalp are always clean; clean your hair brush regularly, use only washed and well-dried towels on your hair and pillow.
It’s shocking to me how many women skip conditioner when showering, which is the worst thing you can do for your hair — especially when you’re trying to grow it long — and it’s actually shampoo that you should be skipping as much as possible,” Townsend says. Here’s why: The purpose of shampoo is to wash away dirt and product buildup, but it can also take essential natural oils that keep strands soft and healthy along with it. When you really do need shampoo, be gentler on your hair by only lathering up at your scalp and then simply letting the suds slide down strands, hitting the rest of the hair as the water rinses it away.

Hi there...sorry to hear that! I like to alternate with the oils. I wash my hair every other day, so when I'm not washing my hair I do the inversion method without any oil and then when I am washing my hair the next morning I will use coconut oil when massaging and leave it overnight. You can adapt the method to suit your needs, for example if you only wash your hair once a week then you can use coconut oil just once, but still do the inversion the rest of the days without oil. I hope that makes sense!
Hi Kayla, thanks for your comments. It's definitely possible to improve the quality and health of your hair on a limited budget, in my article you'll find a few different ways to boost hair growth and make your hair stronger. Firstly it's important to eat plenty of Biotin-rich foods such as eggs, almonds, pecans, walnuts, milk, salmon and avocado. Scalp massage will help boost the blood flow and promote hair growth, you can read more about this in the article, and finally oils definitely help. I do like argan oil, but I prefer raw coconut oil. I hope this helps!
Consider adding more of these to your diet – carrots, oats, whole grains, brown rice, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, lentils, sweet potatoes, pumpkin seeds, oysters, nuts such as walnuts and almonds, flaxseed oil (Linseed oil) or ground flaxseeds, seafood like salmon and tuna that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, eggs, beans, yogurt, and low-fat cheese.
Thank you for this GREAT post! I’ve been taking biotin, grass-fed gelatin and started doing the inversion method once a month! I have a question about going NO-POO. I’ve started doing this last week, and it’s going well. Expect now, my 3 weeks of not doing the inversion method are over. Which means I will have to start again tomorrow, but I don’t know how to combine the massaging with oil and the no-poo method? I really want to continue using these oils but my hair will be so greasy i’d have to wash it every day. So stretching my washings (which is advised in the No-Poo method) will be completely ruined again.. Do you have any advice on this? Thank you!!
When I asked her about vitamins, she said “supplements are just that, something to supplement your diet and lifestyle that are already up to par.” Knowing that, in addition to the above healthy-living tips, boosters include omega-3s, protein powders and probiotics (“keeping our gut microbe is KEY to an overall healthy body including nutrient absorption, which, in the long run, means healthy hair”). She recommends New Chapter Perfect Hair, Skin and Nails. (Nutrition Stripped partnered with New Chapter this year but McKel endorses this product regardless. “We wouldn’t have them on our site otherwise,” she told me.)
Fact: Shampoo takes all of the dirt and grime out of your hair and scalp, while conditioner replenishes nutrients that you hair needs to be healthy and shiny. To help keep your hair in tip-top shape without stripping your hair of its natural oils and nutrients, opt for a deep treatment hair mask more often and ditch the shampoo now and then in favor of a dry shampoo.
Minoxidil is the only FDA-approved drug for treating hair loss in women — so if your hair loss has become a major problem for you, this treatment is worth a try. According to LIVESTRONG, while men are approved to use the 5 percent solution, women are only approved to use the 2-percent solution at this time, so keep that in mind when making your minoxidil purchase and when applying (it’s applied topically twice a day). Products containing minoxidil include Women’s Rogaine and Pantene Expert Hair Regrowth Treatment for Women.

Toss out products that contain harsh chemicals. In your quest for thicker hair, you might have an array of shampoos and conditioners promising to help your hair grow longer and thicker. Unfortunately, many of these products may be exacerbating the problem. Take a look at the ingredients and toss out the products that have unpronounceable names. To grow thicker hair, you need to avoid dousing your hair with harmful chemicals.
Make a restorative hair mask. If your hair is dry or thin, treating it with a nutritious mask can help restore its luster. A restorative hair mask may not help your hair grow quickly, but by protecting the hair you have, it will keep you from having to trim off split ends and take a step backward on your journey to having longer hair. Here's how to make a hair mask:[3]
Keeping your scalp and hairs clean is important in order to control hair fall and boost hair growth. Uncleaned scalp and hairs can invite dandruff and other scalp problems that can certainly aggravate the hair fall. So take every measure to maintain the best hair hygiene when you are suffering from hair fall. Wash your towels and pillow cover regularly. Do not touch your hairs with dirty hands and make it a point to wash your comb or brush every day to ensure that these are not working as a source of dirt or infection.

What is the best treatment for hair fall? It has been found that minerals like silica and zinc are also critical for hair growth. These elements contribute to keep the scalp and hairs healthy. These trace elements are needed in a little amount in our body, but if there is a deficiency of these minerals, it can trigger hair fall. Beans, cucumber, mango, celery, pumpkin seeds, oysters and eggs are natural sources of these minerals, so include these foods in your regular diet. You can also take 500 mg of silica twice a day in addition to 30 mg of zinc after consulting with your doctor.

"Antioxidants help protect your body's cells against free radical damage," says Erin Palinski, RD, author of Belly Fat Diet For Dummies. "This damage increases stress hormones and inflammation, which impacts all cells in the body, including those in the hair and nails." Among other fruits and dark greens, Palinski calls out blueberries: "They have one of the highest antioxidant properties of all fruits," she says.
I am on a tight budget, so I use regular veg oil, and beeten eggs for protein. When I get back on my feet again, I'll use the coconut oil, I know it works. Until then what I am using is working, my hair is thicker, shinny, and longer, I have gotten comments on my hair, I'm 50 years old, my hair was thinning and brittle. It takes a while longer, but I'm happy. Now my ex-husband can eat his heart out at my daughter's wedding in June, cause he loves long hair and mine is growing below my boobs. Lol
